IOWA CITY, IA – GlenOak High School in Canton, OH, has named its new football field after former Iowa Coach Bob Commings. The dedication of the new stadium and field took place earlier this fall.

The GlenOak football program moved into its new stadium this fall and the playing surface was officially labeled Bob Commings Field. His son Bob Jr, a former Iowa quarterback, was on hand for the dedication.

Commings was Iowa’s head football coach for five years (1974-78). He was a three-time letterman for the Hawkeyes and was Iowa’s MVP in 1957.

Commings left Iowa and became head coach at GlenOak. He coached there 12 seasons, becoming the school’s winningest football coach. He died of cancer, in 1992, at the age of 59.
