Madison, WI – The University of Iowa volleyball team was swept by Wisconsin Friday night. Iowa falls to 9-21 overall and 1-18 in Big Ten play.
Junior Laura Kremer and freshman Aimee Huffman led the Hawkeyes with nine kills while sophomore Megan Schipper added eight. Freshman Katie Kennedy chipped in six total blocks while Huffman had four.
Wisconsin took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 30-20 win in game one. Iowa took an early 2-1 lead, but the Badgers responded with a 6-1 run to take a 7-3 lead. The Hawkeyes kept the game within three points, using a Wisconsin error to bring the score to 12-10. The Badgers then went on a 13-4 run to take a commanding 25-14 lead and held on for the win.
Game two saw the Badgers come away with a 30-22 win. Wisconsin stormed out to a 4-0 lead, but the Hawkeyes used an 8-4 surge to tie the game at eight. After another tie at nine, the Badgers went on a 12-5 run to take a 22-14 lead. The Hawkeyes used two Wisconsin errors along with a Kennedy block for a 22-17 score, but the Badgers managed to hold on for the win.
Game three remained close to start, with ties at one, three and four before the Hawkeyes took a 5-4 lead off a Badger error. Iowa kept its lead until Wisconsin managed to tie the score at 12. The game saw one more tie at 13 before the Badgers took the lead for good at 14-13. Wisconsin finished the final game of the match with a 16-10 run for the win.
Iowa will play its final match of the season Saturday at Illinois. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
