IOWA CITY – Five University of Iowa football players have been named to the 2007 Sporting News freshman all-Big Ten team. The honors were announced today.
Wide receiver James Cleveland and offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga were a part of the offensive unit and defensive back Brett Greenwood made the defensive squad. Punter Ryan Donahue and kicker Daniel Murray were named to the first unit as specialist. Iowa’s five selections were the most of any Big Ten school.
Cleveland caught 36 passes for 464 yards to rank second on the team. Bulaga started the last five games at offensive left guard. Greenwood was Iowa’s starting free safety the final seven games. He totaled 45 tackles and had two interceptions.
Donahue averaged 41.1 yards a punt and had an 82-yarder against Michigan State. He set single-season Hawkeye records for punts (86) and yards (3,533). Murray was Iowa’s second leading scorer with 37 points.
