Iowa State improves its score to 12-3 in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series with tonight’s victory.

The Cyclones have now won three straight over the Hawkeyes and six consecutive at Hilton Coliseum. The home team has won six of the last seven meetings.

Tonight’s game was the lowest scoring game in the 38 meetings between the two teams. The two teams combined for 102 points (Iowa State 58, Iowa 44) tonight. The previous low was 103 points in a 64-39 triumph over Iowa State in 2002.

Wendy Ausdemore made four triples tonight, marking the fifth game this season she has drained three or more 3-pointers in a single-game. Her first trey of the night was the 100th of her career. The junior finished with a team-high 16 points.

Iowa equaled a season high in rebounds tonight (44). Iowa also had 44 rebounds vs. Detroit last Sunday. Megan Skouby secured a season-high seven rebounds. Johanna Solverson grabbed eight boards and Krista VandeVenter corralled seven. Kachine Alexander snagged six boards for the second time this season.

Kristi Smith scored all 14 of her points in the second half. Megan Skouby was Iowa’s third player in double figures tonight (10).

The Hawkeyes only attempted six free throws tonight (Megan Skouby 2-2, Kristi Smith 3-4).

Both teams were plagued by poor field goal shooting tonight. Iowa State shot at a 32.4 clip, while Iowa shot a season-low 29.3 percent. The Hawkeyes held the Cyclones to 14.3 percent (2-14) from behind the arc.

Iowa State went on a 17-2 run in the first half to build a 22-6 cushion 14 minutes into the contest. The Hawkeyes had a scoring drought over five minutes midway through the first stanza.

Iowa’s 13 first-half points are the fewest of the season. Megan Skouby scored eight of Iowa’s 13 first-half points. Wendy Ausdemore was Iowa’s only other scorer in the first half, netting five.

Iowa only had two players (Megan Skouby and Wendy Ausdemore) score for the first 25:49 of the game. Kristi Smith finally became the third Hawkeye to score at the 14:11 mark of the second half.

The Cyclones out-scored the Hawkeyes 20-4 in the paint in the first half and 40-16 in the game.

Stacy Schlapkohl blocked two shots for the second straight game to match a career high.

Tonight was the third game Iowa played without injured starter Jenee Graham. The senior suffered a broken bone in her right shooting hand (Nov. 26).

Iowa finishes 2-1 against in-state teams this season. The Hawkeyes downed Drake and Northern Iowa, but fell to Iowa State.

Iowa returns to action Saturday vs. Northern Illinois at 2:05 p.m. in the first round of the KCRG-TV9 Hawkeye Challenge.
