4 Hawkeye seniors selected for postseason bowls

IOWA CITY — Four seniors from the 2007 University of Iowa football team have been invited to participate in three separate postseason all-star games.

Linebacker Mike Humpal is listed on the West roster for the 61st annual Hula Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 12, beginning at 5 p.m. CT at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. Humpal led the Hawkeyes with 123 tackles (46 solo, 77 assists). He added 5 ½ tackles, three interceptions and a quarterback sack.

Defensive ends Kenny Iwebema and Bryan Mattison are both members of the East team coached by Dick Vermeil at the East-West Shrine Game on Saturday, Jan. 19, beginning at 6 p.m. CT in Robertson Stadium in Houston. Mattison was sixth on the team with 61 tackles (27 solo, 34 assists) with a team-high nine sacks. He was second among all Hawkeyes with 11 ½ tackles for loss. Iwebema was 12th on the team with 28 tackles (11 solo, 17 assists) with five tackles for loss and 3 ½ sacks.

Cornerback Charles Godfrey will participate in the Under Armour Senior Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 26, beginning at 3 p.m. CT from Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. Godfrey intercepted a team-high five passes to go along with 65 tackles (42 solo, 23 assists). He also added nine pass break-ups.

Iowa finished the season 6-6 overall, 4-4 in the Big Ten Conference. The Hawkeye defense ranked first in the conference in turnover margin and Red Zone defense and finished third in fewest points allowed (18.8 per game).
