Iowa Opens Spring Season in Mexico

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team opens its spring season Feb. 11 and 12 as they travel to Baja, Mexico to compete in the 13-team Baja Invitational.

THE COMPETITION
Joining Iowa in the tournament field will be the following teams: Northern Illinois (host), Southern Mississippi, Bradley, Drake, North Texas, UC-Davis, Southern Illinois, Kennesaw State, USC Upstate, East Tennessee, Birmingham Southern and Wofford.

The Invitational will take place at the Bajamar Resort Golf Club. The par of the course is 71 and the yardage is 4,696.

LINEUP
Participating for the Hawkeyes will be seniors Melanie Boyles and Jill Marcum, juniors Tyrette Metzendorf and Becky Quinby, and freshman Lauren Forbes.

LAST COMPETITION
The Hawkeyes ended their fall competition Oct. 31 at the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu, HI. Iowa finished tied for 18th, and were paced by Metzendorf, who finished in 18th place (+11, 227).

Over the winter break, Metzendorf competed at the Harder Hall Invitational in Sebring, FL. She tied for 18th overall. The Winter Haven, Fla., native has five Top-20 finishes this season and three in the Top 10.
