Hawkeyes In Lead After Day One at Baja Invite

BAJA, MEXICO – – The University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s golf team closed out the first day of the Baja Invitational in first place, with junior Tyrette Metzendorf leading the way. The junior from Winter Haven, FL, ended round one in first place with a score of 145 (+1).

As a team, the Hawkeyes shot considerably better in the second round of play, improving the total team score from a 320 in round one to a 304 in round two. Iowa finished the first day with a team score of 624, leading by one stroke over second place Kennesaw State.

The rest of the Hawkeyes are all within one stroke of each other. Senior Jill Marcum and junior Becky Quinby were tied in 21st-place (161, +17), senior Melanie Boyles was tied in 24th-place (162, +18) and freshman Lauren Forbes was tied in 27th-place (163, +19).

Play at the Baja Invitational concludes Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start as the Hawkeyes will look to win their first tournament of the season.
