UI Extends Contract with Ferentz

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa Director of Athletics Gary Barta today announced a one-year extension to the UI’s contract with head football coach Kirk Ferentz. Ferentz is beginning his 10th season as head coach of the Hawkeyes and his 19th year as a member of the coaching staff of the UI’s football program.

Ferentz’ new contract will run through the 2012 football season. The one-year extension agreement did not change any other terms of the contract.

Ferentz, a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year selection while at Iowa, has a 61-49 record as head coach of the Hawkeyes. His nine-year stay has included two league titles and first-division finishes in the Big Ten Conference in six of the past seven years.

The 2008 season with be Ferentz’ 19th as a member of the UI football coaching staff. He was a member of Hayden Fry’s staff for nine seasons during the 1980s prior to becoming the head coach at Maine and moving to the NFL for stints with Cleveland and Baltimore.
