IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa football players James Cleveland and Arvell Nelson have been dismissed from the team, according to UI head coach Kirk Ferentz, who made the announcement Thursday. Both Cleveland and Nelson were second-year student-athletes.

“It’s disappointing any time one of our players doesn’t complete his career with our team and go on to earn their degree from Iowa,” Ferentz said. “That being said, we wish both James and Arvell success in the future.”

Cleveland, a wide receiver from Baytown, Texas, saw extensive action as a red-shirt freshman last season. He started 11 of 12 games and was Iowa’s second leading receiver with 36 catches for 464 yards. Nelson, a reserve quarterback from Cleveland, Ohio, saw limited action in three games.
