Hawkeyes Head To Shamrock Intercollegiate

THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to Fort Mill, SC, this week for the Shamrock Intercollegiate, hosted by Winthrop. Competition will take place Friday-Sunday. This will be the first time the Hawkeyes will have ever competed in this tournament.

THE COMPETITION — There will be 14 teams competing at the 54-hole tournament: Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Gardner-Webb, Iowa, Murray State, Presbyterian, Princeton, St. Francis (PA), Siena, South Dakota State, South Carolina Upstate, Tennessee State, Winthrop and Xavier.

The tournament will be held at the Tega Cay Golf Course, with a par of 72 and total yardage of 5,974.

LINEUP — The lineup for the Shamrock Intercollegiate includes juniors Tyrette Metzendorf and Becky Quinby, seniors Melanie Boyles and Jill Marcum and sophomore Alison Cavanaugh.

LAST COMPETITION — Iowa finished in a three-way tie for ninth place in the 15-team Gainesville Shootout on the par-70 Mary Bostick Golf Course last weekend, shooting a 54-hole total of 950. Big Ten rival Illinois (916) won the tournament title.

Hawkeye junior Tyrette Metzendorf tied for 27th (234, +24), while classmate Becky Quinby finished only two strokes behind Metzendorf in 31st place (236, +26). Metzendorf shot an 18-hole low team score of 74 during Friday’s second round. Her score of 74 was the fifth-best score of the second round. Senior Jill Marcum tied for 42nd (240, +30).
