Larissa Libby Named Coach Of The Year

PARK RIDGE, IL – University of Iowa Head Coach Larissa Libby has been named 2008 Big Ten Coach of the Year. The honor comes after a strong 2008 Hawkeye campaign. Iowa went 10-4-1 this season and was ranked as high as 19th-nationally and third in the Big Ten.

Iowa women’s gymnast Jenifer Simbhudas has been named first team all-Big Ten. The honor comes after Simbhudas’ strong junior season during which she earned many high scores and first-place finishes.

Simbhudas scored a career-best 9.95 on floor against Minnesota to place first, and also saw scores of 9.9 or higher on floor four different times. She won the all-around seven times this season and scored a career-high 39.45 against Minnesota.

Simbhudas holds Iowa’s top individual scores for 2008 on vault (9.875), floor (9.95) and in the all-around (39.45). She placed first on vault four times, tied for first in the event two times, and saw a top three finish on bars seven times.
