IOWA CITY – The Iowa women’s basketball team will make its first-ever appearance in the ninth annual Paradise Jam Tournament on the island of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, Nov. 27-29. All games will be played at the U.V.I. Sports and Fitness Center.
The tournament is comprised of two four-team divisions. The Hawkeyes will compete in the “Reef Division” and will play three games. The Hawkeyes open tournament action against Texas Tech of the Big XII Conference on Thanksgiving (Nov. 27) at 5 p.m. Iowa will then face South Florida of the Big East Conference, Friday at 5 p.m. The Black and Gold will conclude tournament play against California of the Pac-10 Conference, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. All times are central.
All three Hawkeye opponents competed in the post-season this past March. California advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships. Texas Tech and South Florida both competed in the WNIT, losing in the third and first round, respectively.
Also competing in the Paradise Jam, in the “Island Division”, are Baylor, Wisconsin, Central Florida and Villanova.
Iowa’s complete 2008-09 schedule will be released later this summer.
