IOWA CITY, IA — Hawkeye senior Bart van Monsjou has been selected as the Region IV ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship award winner. Region IV consists of over 30 schools, including 10 of the 11 Big Ten institutions. In winning the award, van Monsjou is one of six student-athletes in the country to qualify for the national award.
“This is another great honor for Bart,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “He has excelled as a student, an athlete and a sportsman.”
van Monsjou was a unanimous first team all-Big Ten selection in 2008, compiling an overall record of 15-6 at the No. 1 singles position. He posted a 7-3 mark in Big Ten play, and was runner-up at the 2007 Big Ten singles tournament. A two-time academic all-Big Ten honoree, van Monsjou was Iowa’s Big Ten Sportsmanship award winner three times.
