Hawkeyes Excel In Classroom

June 4, 2008

IOWA CITY, IA – Six members of the University of Iowa men’s tennis team have been named academic all-Big Ten. The six honorees are the most the Hawkeyes have had since the 2000-01 season.

To be eligible for an academic all-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade point average of 3.0 or better.

With two of the 11 team members being freshmen, nine Hawkeyes were eligible to receive the award. Of the nine eligible, six received the honor. Head Coach Steve Houghton was very happy with his team’s success in the classroom.

“I am very proud that two-thirds of our guys earned this honor,” said Houghton. “It says a lot about their commitment to academic success.”
