IOWA CITY – hawkeyesports.com, the official world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes, has gone mobile just in time for the start of fall drills for the 2008 University of Iowa football team.

Fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes who log into hawkeyesports.com with their “smartphone” will now receive a “smartphone-friendly” version of the site. The appearance of the content will vary from phone to phone. In its testing, hawkeyesports.com used the Motorola Q, a Blackberry, a Treo Palm and an HTC Touch.

The Apple IPhone offers its customers a fully-enabled web browser and, therefore, it delivers the fully-enabled version of hawkeyesports.com. It won’t be too long before all smartphones offer this level of web browsing to its customers.

hawkeyesports.com routinely receives visits from more than 200,000 unique visitors each month who typically download more than 2 million pages monthly. Traffic on the site typically ramps up in August with the start of the college football season and peaks during the months of November and December with the cross-over of the football and basketball seasons.

A second spike in activity occurs in March when the college basketball season begins to get “Mad” and the Iowa wrestling team begins its post-season competition.

“Staying connected with the Iowa Hawkeyes has never been easier than it is today. This is just one way fans can do so,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletics director for external affairs.
