Fans Asked to Contribute to Disaster Relief

Sept. 3, 2008

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Fans of the University of Iowa football team attending Saturday’s game against Florida International will be asked to make a contribution to disaster relief as they make their way into historic Kinnick Stadium.

“The flood waters and the tornados have been gone for awhile, but our friends across the state are still in great need, and will be for a long time. One dollar from each fan would make a huge difference. I’m confident Hawkeye fans will once again choose to help out.”

Approximately 30 teams of two volunteers each will be positioned in the parking lots around Kinnick and near the entry gates beginning at 9 a.m. Fans of the Hawkeyes are asked to consider making a $1 contribution as they enter Kinnick for the 11 a.m. kickoff. The staff responsible for the game-day solicitation will be wearing white t-shirts with the official logo of the gold exhibition on the front of the shirt.

All donations received on Saturday will be added to the revenue generated from the Zach Johnson Disaster Relief Exhibition scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, at Finkbine Golf Course and donated to the 2008 Disaster Relief Fund.

“The flood waters and the tornados have been gone for awhile, but our friends across the state are still in great need, and will be for a long time. One dollar from each fan would make a huge difference. I’m confident Hawkeye fans will once again choose to help out, ” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics.

Fans interested in purchasing tickets to the nine-hole exhibition that will feature PGA TOUR standouts Zach Johnson, Chris DiMarco and Todd Hamilton can do so on Saturday at the UI Athletics Ticket Office located at the southeast corner of Kinnick. Tickets are also available at US Bank locations and at Finkbine Golf Course. Additional information is available at 1-800 IA-HAWKS and online at hawkeyesports.com.
