Ferentz Live Tuesday

Sept. 23, 2008

IOWA CITY, Iowa – There’s little doubt that high on the list of topics to be covered Tuesday when Kirk Ferentz meets the media for their weekly chat shortly after lunch will be the quarterback position. However, no one in the room should be too surprised if Iowa’s veteran head coach wants to talk about Northwestern’s C.J. Bacher.

Bacher and his teammates will take the field Saturday at historic Kinnick Stadium for an 11 a.m. Iowa time date with the Hawkeyes that will be televised live on ESPN Classic. The game is the Big Ten Conference opener for both teams and Iowa’s 2008 Homecoming game.

All Bacher has done thus far in 2008 is guide Northwestern to a 4-0 start. The senior ranks fourth among Big Ten quarterbacks with an average of 189.5 passing yards per game. He’s completed 76 passes for 758 yards and three touchdowns. He’s as dangerous as dangerous can be.

Bacher completed 27 of 54 attempts for 264 yards and one interception last year when Iowa defeated the Wildcats 28-17 at Ryan Field in Evanston. The Hawkeyes picked off three Bacher’s aerials last season.

Flanking Bacher in the NU backfield again this year is multi-talented running back Tyrell Sutton. Another Wildcat senior, Sutton is averaging better than six yards a carry in 2008. He’s also scored five times.

Sutton ran for a game-high 119 yards and caught a team-high seven passes last year against the Hawkeyes.

Iowa entertains Northwestern Saturday at 11 a.m. inside historic Kinnick Stadium in this year’s Homecoming game. ESPN Classic will provide live national television coverage.
