IOWA CITY, IA – With 12 returning team members and a group of nine new freshmen, the University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team took the time to head out to the local ropes course set up by UI Recreation Services for a day of team building.

“We thought that this might be a good way to kick off our season,” senior Jenifer Simbhudas said. “We have such a large team this year and we thought it would be best if we did an activity that would put us all on the same page, heading toward the same goals.”

The course is designed to allow team members to grow at both the team and individual levels, exploring risk, leadership, communication and problem-solving. While both a high and low ropes course are available, the GymHawks spent the majority of the day on the Low Ropes Course, which focuses on collaboration. The challenges call for contribution from every member, presenting unending opportunities for self-discovery and team growth.

Team members spent nearly four hours working on team building activities and capped of the day with a team picnic and goal setting activities.

“It was an awesome day,” said senior Kara Pinjuv. “Everyone was so into all of the activities and really worked hard to be a cohesive unit.”

The GymHawks kick off their season Dec. 6 with the annual Black and Gold Meet.
