Women's Golf to Host Hawkeye Invitational

THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa’s women’s golf team will host the 15-team Hawkeye Invitational this weekend at Finkine Golf Course in Iowa City. Finkbine is a par 72, 6,202 yard course.

THE COMPETITION — The teams traveling to Iowa City to compete are Ball State, Bradley, Central Arkansas, Creighton, Drake, Illinois State, Longwood, Northern Iowa, North Dakota, Oakland, Penn State, Sacramento State, South Dakota State and Wisconsin.

LINEUP — All of the members on the Hawkeye roster will be playing in this weekend’s tournament. Although each team is only allowed five competing players, the remaining four will play as individuals. Seniors Becky Quinby and Tyrette Metzendorf will be leading the team, while junior Alison Cavanaugh and sophomore Laura Cilek will also be a part of the five person team. The fifth golfer has yet to be determined.

LAST COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes competed Monday and Tuesday in Columbia, MO, at the Johnie Imes Invitational. The team came home with a 10th place finish and final team score of 935.

HAWKEYE INVITATIONAL HISTORY — This is the 31st year that the Iowa has hosted the Hawkeye Invitational. The first tournament, held in 1975, was 18 holes. Iowa has won the tournament three of the last four years and eight times overall. Last years Hawkeye Invitational champion was UT-Chattanooga.

NEXT COMPETITION — Iowa’s next competition will be the Lady Northern Invitational hosted by Purdue on Oct. 18-19. This will be a preview of the course, which will host the Big Ten Championships in April.

*There has been a change in the tee times for Saturday. It will now be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start instead of 8 a.m.
