Ferentz Live

Oct. 13, 2008

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa football team hit on all cylinders last Saturday against the Indiana Hoosiers.

They ran the ball. The passed the ball. They dominated both lines of scrimmage. They were physical. Their special teams were special. They didn’t turn the ball over and, in fact, took it away twice.

Kirk Ferentz will undoubtedly be asked Tuesday during his weekly visit with the media what the likelihood of the Hawkeyes doing it all again this Saturday when Iowa entertains Wisconsin in the annual battle for the Heartland Trophy. Game time for this year’s “Be Bold, Wear Gold” game at historic Kinnick Stadium is set for 11 a.m. Iowa time with live national television coverage being provided by the Big Ten Network.

The Hawkeyes will be tangling with an angry bunch of Badgers. A pre-season pick to contend for the league crown and a berth in a Bowl Championship Series game, Wisconsin sits in dead last in the Big Ten Conference, winless in three league games, the last two coming inside Camp Randall Stadium where the Badgers have been near impossible to beat in recent years.

Iowa, meanwhile, will be anxious to build on the momentum of last week’s dominating performance, to climb to an even 2-2 against Big Ten opponents and 5-3 overall, and to snap a two-game losing streak against Bret Bielema’s squad.

A win and the Hawkeyes head into their bye week with, as a former UI head coach from Texas would say, a “hitch in their giddy-up.” A loss, and the week off will seem like an eternity.

Iowa ‘s game Saturday against Wisconsin at historic Kinnick Stadium – the Hawkeyes’ annual ‘Be Bold, Wear Gold’ event – will kick off shortly after 11 a.m.Iowa time and will be televised live by the Big Ten Network.
