ATLANTA – – Iowa running back Shonn Greene is one of four nominees for the AT&T All-America Player of the Week award after the eighth week of college football action.
Fans will determine the winner between Greene, Texas QB Colt McCoy, Penn State RB Evan Royster and Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford. The four were selected by ESPN as last Saturday’s top candidates, based on the players’ outstanding performances over the weekend.
Fans can text message VOTE to 51234 on their wireless phone to opt in for the chance to vote. Fans have until 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday to submit their votes. The winner will be announced during Thursday’s ESPN College Football Primetime Presented by Applebee’s. Standard text messaging rates apply. There is no limit on fan voting.
Greene, a junior from Sicklerville, NJ, outscored the Badgers by himself scoring 24 points with four rushing touchdowns and rushing for 217 yards on 25 carries. His four rushing scores (12, 34, 34 and 52) and 24 points equaled school records and matched the Kinnick Stadium records, by an Iowa player. Greene’s 34-yard touchdown in the second quarter pushed him over 1,000 rushing yards for the season. He became the 12th Hawkeye, and second-fastest, to reach 1,000 yards.
Greene’s 217 yards ties Nick Bell for the sixth-most rushing yards in a single-game in school history. The junior has topped the century mark eight-straight games and nine times in his career. He is the first Hawkeye to ever eclipse 100 yards in eight-straight contests. Furthermore, he is the only Football Bowl Subdivision running back to rush for 100 yards the first eight games this season. Greene ranks third nationally in rushing yards per game (144.2).
In December, four finalists for the AT&T All-America Player of the Year Award will be announced during a one-hour special on ESPN in conjunction with the announcement of the AT&T ESPN All-America Team as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.
