Iowa Women's Golf Travels to Austin

THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s golf team will tee off this week in its final tournament of the fall season. The Challenge at Wolfdancer is taking place in Austin, TX, on Nov. 2-3. The 16-team tournament is hosted by the Texas State Bobcats.

THE COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes will contend with Baylor, McNeese State, Louisville, College of Charleston, Iowa State, Colorado, Missouri State, Texas State, Idaho, Kansas State, Nebraska and Texas Tech for the tournament team title. In addition to the 14 non-conference schools, three Big Ten Conference teams will also participate, including Illinois, Michigan and Northwestern.

LINEUP — Iowa’s tentative lineup for the upcoming tournament includes senior golfers Tyrette Metzendorf and Becky Quinby, junior Alison Cavanaugh, sophomore Laura Cilek and freshman Chelsea Harris.

CHALLENGE AT WOLFDANCER — This is the second annual Challenge at Wolfdancer. The tournament will be played on a par 72, 7,205 yard Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Golf Course. Teams will tee off Sunday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Northwestern was the champion of the tournament held last year.

LAST COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes recently participated in the Lady Northern Invitational in West Lafayette, IN. The team brought home eighth place with a team score 942. Tyrette Metzendorf led Iowa by carding a 230. The Lady Northern Invite served as preview for the Big Ten Championships, which will be held on the same course in the spring.

NEXT COMPETITION — The Challenge at Wolfdancer will be Iowa’s final competition of the fall season. The team will hit the links for its 2009 spring season on Mar. 9-10 with the Eagle Landing Invitational in Orange Park, FL.
