IOWA CITY, IA – For the second season in a row, the University of Iowa soccer team was named a recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NCSAA) Team Academic Award for the 2008 season. The Hawkeyes’ had a team grade-point average of 3.14 and were one of six Big Ten universities represented on the list.
“This is a great award for our team,” said Iowa Head Coach Ron Rainey. “It shows that our team is not only improving on the field, but in the classroom as well.”
In addition to the NCSAA Award, 12 Hawkeyes were named Academic all-Big Ten this week. The list includes seniors Stephanie Hyink, Jackie Kaeding and Katie Smeltzer, juniors Erica Clausen, Kelsey McCarron, Alexandria Seydel, Nicole Slevin and Heather Windsor, and sophomores Kali Feiereisel, Mandy Heimann, Amanda Martin and Stephanie Swanson.
