Current UI students who are 2008-09 season ticket holders for men’s basketball received the following e-mail from the UI Athletics Department on Thursday, Jan. 22, the morning after the Hawkeyes’ overtime victory over Wisconsin.
How `bout them Hawkeyes!
If you were in Carver last night cheering Coach Todd Lickliter’s squad to its overtime victory over Big Ten Conference rival Wisconsin, thanks. You and your peers were difference-makers particularly at game’s end when the Hawkeyes needed your support.
You were loud. You were proud. And you were a presence felt by our visitors from the Badger State.
And, if you were among the student season ticket holders who brought a friend to last night’s “Buddy Night,” thanks…and we hope they had a good time.
“It was sure nice to have the students behind us and in our favor. I can’t thank them enough, and I really appreciate the students and everyone being here,” Todd said during his post-game press conference.

We want to remind all students that the Hawkeyes’ next home game – next Thursday against nationally ranked and Big Ten leader Michigan State – is the second of two home games this season where all students are invited to attend for free.
Season ticket holders already received their ticket to this game. It was included in the sheet of game tickets you picked up prior to the start of the season.
Current students who are not season ticket customers can reserve their game ticket – while supplies last – by clicking HERE and reserving their game ticket. We recommend you do this sooner rather than later because, again, there is a limited supply of free tickets available to current UI students.
We’ll send you another reminder early next week. It’s another big game for the Hawkeyes and another loud and proud Hawks Nest would help immensely.
If you don’t have any plans for the coming weekend, you might also consider showing your support for Coach Lisa Bluder’s Iowa women’s basketball team Monday at 7 p.m. when the Hawkeyes entertain Michigan in the team’s annual “Buck Night” game. Don’t worry about the $1 admission charge – UI students are always admitted free to the home games of our women’s basketball team.
And, finally, the nation’s top wrestling team – the Iowa Hawkeyes – return to action this weekend with a pair of dual meets in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Coach Tom Brands’ squad entertains Wisconsin at 7 p.m., Friday, and Illinois at 5 p.m., Sunday. And, like women’s basketball on Monday night, UI students are admitted free to these two events.
Go Hawks!
