Q-and-A With Hannah Draxten

Is there any significance to your uniform number (#31)?
“All three of my older brothers wore that number throughout their careers. I went to almost every game of theirs and wanted to be just like them. I started out with that number and have never changed.”

What is your favorite type of candy?
“Blow-Pop suckers are my favorite type of candy. I love the fruity taste, plus I get to enjoy the bubble gum in the center. It’s a two for one deal!”

Do you have any phobias, if so which one(s)?
“I am deathly afraid of snakes. If I see one on TV or in a book I have to close my eyes or look away. They are just so slithery. They tend to pop out at you when you least expect. Also, they move so fast without any legs! How does that work? I get the chills just thinking about them.”

If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
“It’s hard to pick just one place. The only qualifications for a destination would be white sand, the turquoise ocean, and the hot sun. If it has all three then get me a ticket and I’m on my way!”

What is your favorite month of the year and why?
“July. My three favorite things are water skiing, being with friends, and laying out in the sun. July is the perfect month for that. The sun is always shining, the lake water is the perfect temperature, AND there’s no school.”

If you weren’t playing basketball, what other sport would you want to be a star in and why?
“If I wasn’t playing basketball I would want to be a star in gymnastics. I think it would be awesome to be able to leap around a do all types of flips. Back in the day I was in gymnastics, but I decided to call it quits when they told me I had to do a cart wheel on the balance beam.”

If you could “hang out” with one celebrity for a day, who would it be and why?
“I have two people who come to mind. My first celebrity would be Regis Philbin. He just seems like such a fun guy who would be able to carry on a conversation. I think we would get along GREAT! My second celebrity would be Bear Grylls from the show Man vs. Wild. Who wouldn’t want to spend a day with a guy who has survived in every type of place? I would want to do a bunch of extreme nature stuff with him. Plus, I love his accent.”

What is your dream job?
“My dream job would be a stay-at-home mom. It has been my dream for some time now. What could be better than not working and playing with your children all day? I want to be the wife that has dinner ready on the table when her husband comes home from work. I guess you could say that the 1950’s would be my perfect decade.”

What movie could you watch over-and-over again that never gets old?
“Well, it’s not actually a movie, but I have all of the Friends seasons on DVD and I watch them over and over and over. I think I could recite every episode by heart. Kelly and I have frequent Friends viewing parties and we quote a line from the show at least eight times a day. It just never gets old.”

Do you have any pre-game rituals, and if so what are they?
“I listen to my iPod and it’s a must that I listen to `None of Your Business’ by Salt n Pepper. I have listened to that song for the past two years, and it never fails to get me pumped up for a game.”
