April 14, 2009

THIS WEEK — The women’s golf team is competing at the Lady Buckeye Invitational this weekend in Columbus, OH. Iowa will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ohio State University Golf Club on the Scarlet Course. The 15 competing teams will play 36 holes Saturday and the final 18 Sunday. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com or hawkeyesports.com.

THE COMPETITION — Iowa will face 14 participating teams including Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rollins, Washington and Wisconsin.

LINEUP — The lineup for the Hawkeyes will be seniors Tyrette Metzendorf and Becky Quinby, sophomore Laura Cilek, and freshman Chelsea Harris. The final spot will be determined by the coaches later this week.

HEAD COACH Kelly Crawford — “We are coming off of the most mentally challenging tournament we have ever played in. We had a chance to finish in the top three in horrific weather conditions, but we let the opportunity slip away. OSU is a challenging course, but after last week, I think we are ready for anything. I’d like to see consistent play this weekend and then carry that momentum into the Big Ten Championships.”

LAST COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes fought through every weather condition possible at the Indiana Invitational. Iowa competed in rain, snow and sleet to finish eighth in the 14-team tournament in Columbus, IN. The top Hawkeye golfer was senior Becky Quinby, who finished with a 237, which tied her for 14th place.

NEXT COMPETITION — The women’s golf team will bring its season to a close at the Big Ten Championships, hosted by Purdue University. The tournament will take place April 24-26 in West Lafayette, IN.
