Moeaki Named To Mackey Watch List

July 29, 2009

MANHASSET, NY — The 2009 John Mackey Award watch list has been released by the Nassau County Sports Commission and University of Iowa senior Tony Moeaki is on the list. The award is given annually to the best collegiate tight end. The 2009 John Mackey winner will be announced on December 10, 2009.

Moeaki, a 6-4, 250-pounder, has missed much of the last two seasons with injury problems. The Wheaton, IL native has hauled in 46 career receptions for 566 yards and seven touchdowns. He was also on the Mackey Watch List prior to the start of the 2008 season.

The John Mackey Award presented since 2000, lists eight NFL players as alumni. One of the winners is former Hawkeye all-America tight end Dallas Clark (2001). Clark currently is a member of the 2006 Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts.

NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
