'Kids at Kinnick' This Saturday

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The nationally ranked University of Iowa football team will stage its annual “Kids at Kinnick” day Saturday, Aug. 15. Gates to historic Kinnick Stadium will open at 11 a.m. with the team’s practice scheduled to begin at noon.

Fans planning to attend should enter Kinnick Stadium at Gates A, B and E. Regular season game-day search procedures will be in place. Fans will have access to the south and west grandstands only. As in the past, student-athletes will line up along the railing of the west grandstand for autographs for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the team’s two-hour practice.

The UI Athletics Ticket Office’s location at Kinnick Stadium, concession stands and the Official Iowa Hawk Shop will be open. Team roster cards will be available in addition to a limited number of schedule posters, schedule cards and schedule magnets.

Fans should note that there will be no access to the playing surface of Kinnick. Fans are also reminded that the annual “Kids at Kinnick” activity is designed primarily for the enjoyment of younger fans of the Hawkeyes and,

therefore, the possession of an open container of beer or wine or consumption of hard liquor on University property including parking lots is prohibited by law. Law enforcement officers may ask a person to empty a container or issue citations if the situation warrants.

Iowa opens its 2009 season Saturday, Sept. 5, against intrastate rival Northern Iowa. Game time is set for 11 a.m. inside historic Kinnick Stadium. The game will be the final event of the inaugural FRYfest. The Iowa-Northern Iowa game is the first of seven home games for the Hawkeyes. Iowa also entertains non-conference opponents Arizona and Arkansas State, and Big Ten Conference rivals Michigan, Indiana, Northwestern and Minnesota.
