Angerer, Stanzi and Bulaga Added To More Watch Lists

IOWA CITY – Three University of Iowa football players have been added to “Watch Lists” for the 2009 season. Quarterback Ricky Stanzi, offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga and linebacker Pat Angerer have been named to the Manning, Bednarik and Lombardi Award Watch Lists, respectively.

Stanzi, a 6-4, 218-pound junior from Mentor, OH, joins other signal callers on the Manning Award List, which recognizes the nation’s top collegiate quarterback. Stanzi passed for 1,956 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. He started 11 games for the Hawkeyes in 2008.

Bulaga becomes part of the Lombardi Watch List after being named to Sports Illustrated’s pre-season first all-America team. The Lombardi Award goes annually to college football’s top lineman. The 6-6, 315-pound junior from Crystal Lake, IL was a second team all-Big Ten choice last year. He has started 18 straight games for the Hawkeyes.

Angerer is a 6-1, 235-pound linebacker from Bettendorf, IA. He’s been put on the Chuck Bednarik Watch List which goes to the nation’s top defensive player. He was Iowa’s leading tackler with 107 stops in 2008. He also had five interceptions.

The three additions bring to eight the number of “Watch Lists” Iowa players are part of. Bulaga and Angerer were previously named to the Outland and Ronnie Lott Watch Lists, respectively. The Outland Trophy goes the nation’s top interior lineman and the Lott Trophy is another recognizing the top defensive player.

Also on “Watch Lists” are tight end Tony Moeaki (John Mackey Award), punter Ryan Donahue (Ray Guy Award) and defensive back Amari Spievey (Jim Thorpe Award).
