Big Ten Network Comes Calling

Aug. 25, 2009

IOWA CITY, Iowa – “Gerry DiNardo wants to find out if Iowa’s offensive line is as good as advertised,” Andy Hamilton writes in today’s edition of the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

“Dave Revsine is interested in seeing how the Hawkeyes are handling life with two new starters at defensive tackle.

“And Howard Griffith wants to see if Jewel Hampton is ready to carry the responsibilities that come with carrying the football as a featured back in the Big Ten.

“The Big Ten Network crew arrived Monday in Iowa City for the last stop of its two-week tour through eight states and 11 campuses. They’ve been broadcasting 90-minute shows from practices at every football program in the conference, and Iowa’s turn comes 9 p.m. tonight.

” `I want to see if they have the best offensive line in the conference,’ DiNardo said of a group that returns three starters, all of whom have missed time with injuries during preseason camp.

” `If (senior Dan Doering) is running with the ones tomorrow but he’s ultimately going to be with the twos, that helps you say it’s the best line in the conference. It’s not going to be as easy, but I think you can make a case, even with a couple guys banged up, you can say this is the best line in the conference.'”
