Sept. 14, 2009

The University of Iowa freshman Alyscha Mottershead has been named both the Big Ten Offensive and Freshman Player of the Week. The announcement came today from the Big Ten office.

Mottershead had a hand in four of Iowa’s eight goals over the weekend, recording three goals and one assist.

The Hawkeye newcomer netted her first and second collegiate goals on Friday in Iowa’s 4-1 win over Loyola-Chicago. In Sunday’s game against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Mottershead took aim at the net just once and got the Iowa score. She also recorded an assist on freshman Katherine Lewis’s goal. Iowa defeated UWM, 4-0.

Head Coach Ron Rainey and the Hawkeyes face in-state rivals Iowa State Friday (7 p.m.) and Northern Iowa Sunday (1 p.m.).
