McLaughlin Earns Player Of The Week

Sept. 21, 2009

University of Iowa junior Keli McLaughlin was named the Big Ten’s co-Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in Iowa’s two shutouts this past weekend. McLaughlin is the second Iowa player to earn the award this year. Last week, freshman Alyscha Mottershead was named the conference’s Offensive and Freshman Player of the Week.

The back-to-back honors is the first time in the soccer program’s history that two members of the team have been named Big Ten Player of the Week in the same season. Previous Hawkeyes to earn this award are Stephanie Hyink (2008), Katelyn Quinn (2003) and Britta Vogele (2002).

McLaughlin played a big role in Iowa’s wins over in-state foes Iowa State and Northern Iowa, recording three of Iowa’s five goals. The Alsip, IL native has scored seven goals so far in 2009.

Iowa travels to Minneapolis Thursday to take on Minnesota in the team’s first Big Ten matchup this season. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
