Hawkeyes Head to Lady Northern

THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is competing at the Lady Northern in Madison, WI, Sept. 27-28. Iowa will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at University Ridge Golf Course. The 15 competing teams, including all 11 Big Ten teams, will play 36 holes Sunday and the final 18 Monday. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com or hawkeyesports.com.

THE COMPETITION — Iowa will face 14 teams including College of Charleston, Georgetown, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, SMU and Wisconsin. The Hawkeye lineup will not be decided until Friday.

NEXT COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes will travel to Columbia, MO to compete in the Johnnie Imes Invitational. The tournament will take place October 5-6th.

FROM COACH CRAWFORD — “We have put in a lot of good work these past two weeks,” Crawford said. “I expect we will see an improvement from our last tournament. I’m anxious to see how we do against the other Big Ten Teams.”

AT THE MARY FOSSUM INVITATIONAL — The Hawkeyes finished the Mary Fossum Invitational in 15th place out of 17 teams after firing a 964 (320, 280, 290). In three rounds of play, Michigan State won the 54-hole tournament shooting an 875 (+11).

Junior Brianna Coopman (+22, 238) led the Hawkeyes after firing a team low 80 in the third round. She also recorded an 80 in her second round after posting a 78 in the opening round.

Junior Laura Cilek and freshman Kristi Cardwell each shot a 242 (+26). Cilek had a low of 78 in the second round and Cardwell recorded a low of 80 in both rounds one and three.

Senior Alison Cavanaugh (+28, 244) shot an 81 in third round after opening the tournament with a 79 on her first 18 holes. Freshman Gigi DiGrazia rounded out the team scoring by shooting a 253 (+37) in her first collegiate tournament.
