UI, Big Ten Reaches Agreement with Sirius XM

Sept. 25, 2009

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The UI Atheltics Department and its multi-media partner, Learfield Sports, have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Sirius XM Radio that will provide live coverage of select UI events on the satellite radio system.

As in the past, fans of the Hawkeyes will be able to listen to the play-by-play broadcast produced by the Hawkeye Radio Network featuring Gary Dolphin, Ed Podolak and Rob Brooks when Iowa is playing a home football game. When the UI is on the road — as it is today — the broadcast of the opponent’s radio network will be made available.

Fans of the Hawkeyes who are Sirius customers will hear tonight’s game on Channel 212, a “Best of XM” channel on Sirius.

Fans of the Hawkeyes who are XM Radio customers will hear the game on Channel 196.

“Year after year the Big Ten boasts some of the country’s best teams and we’re thrilled to have these games as part of our college sports lineup,” said Steve Cohen, SIRIUS XM’s SVP of Sports Programming. “With SIRIUS XM, Big Ten fans and alumni will be able to follow their teams from anywhere in the continental U.S., and college sports fans around the country will have access to some of the season’s best matchups.”

“We’re thrilled to have completed this agreement in time for tomorrow’s games,” said Learfield Sports’ Senior Vice President Mike Behymer. “Big Ten Conference fans will be happy to catch their favorite University game action on satellite radio every week throughout the season.”
