MADISON, WI– The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished 12th out of 15 teams today at the Lady Northern Invite in Madison, WI. After a delay in the tournament Sunday, the Hawkeyes finished up the second round shooting a 311 and finished the third round with a 314. Purdue won the tournament shooting a 865 (+1).
After a rocky start sophomore Chelsea Harris (+20, 236) shot a 77 in the second and 78 in the third to end up leading the Hawkeyes. Senior Alison Cavanaugh (+28, 244) fired a tournament team low 75 in the second round and finished up with a 84 in the third.
“I was really happy with Chelsea’s performance,” Head Coach Kelly Crawford said. “She didn’t make the travel team for our first event but then finished the Lady Northern with the best scores on the team. She seemed very confident on the course and I was pleased to see her play solid golf. She looked like she was really having fun out there.”
Junior Laura Cilek and freshman Kristi Cardwell each shot a 238 (+22). Cilek had a low of 77 in the first round and finished with a 78. Cardwell recorded a low of 76 in the first round. Junior Brianna Coopman finished up scoring a 243 (+27) while junior Lauren Forbes rounded out the team scoring by shooting a 243 (+27).
“We will work on staying patient, starting off better and finishing strong,” said Crawford on this week’s practice. “Of course we will continue working on our short games too.”
Iowa will return to action at the Johnnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, MO October 5-6th.
