Iowa Hosts Hawkeye Invitational

THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is hosting its annual Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, IA, Oct. 17-18. Teams will tee off at 8 a.m. Saturday at Finkbine Golf Course. The 13 competing teams will play 36 holes Saturday and the final 18 Sunday. All seven Hawkeyes will compete, two being listed as individuals. THE COMPETITION — Iowa will face 12 teams, including Ball State, Drake, Illinois, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Oakland, Sacramento State, South Dakota State and Washington State.

NEXT COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes will conclude their fall season at the 2009 Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, TX. The tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 2-3.

AT THE JOHNNIE IMES INVITATIONAL– The Hawkeyes placed 16th out of 18 teams at the Johnnie Imes Invitational. In 54 holes, the Hawkeyes shot a 961 (320-313-328). Wisconsin won the tournament, firing a 908.

Freshman Kristi Cardwell led the team in all three rounds. Cardwell shot a team-best 77 in the first, 73 in the second and 81 in the third round, finishing with a 231 (+15).

Sophomore Chelsea Harris scored a 240 (+24) and fired a 77 in round one. Junior Laura Cilek recorded a 244 (+28) after shooting a 77 in the second round. Junior Brianna Coopman shot a 247 (+31) and freshman Gigi DiGrazia finished with a 249 (+33).
