Moeaki Named John Mackey Tight End Of The Week

Oct. 14, 2009

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa tight end Tony Moeaki has been named John Mackey Tight End of the Week by the Nassau County Sports Commission. The Hawkeye senior recorded six receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns as Iowa beat Michigan 30-28 last Saturday.

The 6-4, 250-pounder from Wheaton, IL, was earlier this week named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. Moeaki is the first Big Ten player to win the weekly Mackey Award this year.

Moeaki is also on the John Mackey Award Watch List for the season-ending honor that goes to the nation’s top collegiate tight end. Iowa’s Dallas Clark won the prestigious national award following the 2002 season.

The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor is designed to draw attention to individual play by tight ends during the active season.
