IOWA CITY – Fred Becker, Iowa’s first ever football player to be named first team all-American, is featured in the October issue of the Iowa History Journal.

The article goes into great detail about Becker’s life, including his brilliant playing days at Iowa and his heroic service for his country in World War I.

“The future for Iowa football and Fred Becker looked very bright,” Mike Chapman of the Iowa History Journal writes. “But while much of America was reveling in the exploits of its college football heroes, an extremely grave situation was developing in Europe; soon, it would become known as World War I.”

Chapman goes on to describe the awards and accolades Becker received, along with a descriptive biography on the Hawkeye legend.
