IOWA CITY, IA — The 2009 John Mackey Award midseason watch list has been released by the Nassau County Sports Commission. Iowa senior all-America candidate Tony Moeaki is part of the list. Given annually to the best collegiate tight end, the winner is selected by a vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.
Moeaki, a native of Wheaton, IL, leads the team in receptions with 20 for 247 yards and four touchdowns. He was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week following Iowa’s 30-28 win over Michigan and he had an important TD reception pass in the win over Wisconsin.
The 2009 John Mackey winner will be announced on Dec. 10th. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2009 Mackey semi-finalists on Nov. 16th and the announcement of the finalists on Nov. 23rd. The John Mackey Award midseason watch list is an update from the pre-season list. This list is meant to draw attention to tight ends based on their play in the first half of the season.
Former Iowa all-American Dallas Clark (2002) is a previous winner of the award.
