TULSA, OK – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team completed day one of competition Thursday at the Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championships. Two Hawkeyes, Tommy McGeorge and Tom Mroziewicz, each won two matches to advance to the main singles draw.
McGeorge defeated Andres Riobueno of Arkansas Pine Bluff, 6-2, 6-1, in the qualifying round of 32. The senior then defeated P.J. Hendrie of Saint Louis, 6-1, 6-0, to advance to the main draw.
Mroziewicz defeated Jorge Villacis of Arkansas Pine Bluff, 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 32. In the round of 16, the sophomore defeated Albert Jou of Tulsa, 6-3, 6-1, to advance.
The Hawkeyes will continue competition tomorrow at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, OK. Six Hawkeyes will compete in the main singles draw. In addition, four Iowa doubles teams will compete in the main doubles draw.
