Former Hawkeye Cavey To Play In Charity Game

Oct. 23, 2009

IOWA CITY – Former University of Iowa women’s basketball player Jamie Cavey, along with many other former Division I basketball players, are teaming up for a charity basketball game Friday, Oct. 30 in Ashland, KS. The game will benefit the WEPAC Alliance, a Kansas foundation that pays for cancer-preventative care for women in five Kansas communities.

Cavey is one of 18 former Division I players participating in the event. Her sister, Ann Cavey-Jameson, who played at Missouri State, is also competing. The celebrities, along with six local girls chosen to play, will be split into two teams.

Patti Phillips, along with Big Ten Network women’s basketball analyst Brenda VanLengen, will call the action live on Fox Sports Midwest at 8:30 p.m. (CDT).

Cavey lettered at Iowa from 2002-05, and was a two-time all-Big Ten selection. She holds the school record for career field goal percentage (.571), and finished with 1,265 points and 506 rebounds.

The charity game, and events surrounding the weekend, are expected to raise over $100,000 for the WEPAC Alliance. Ten percent of the proceeds will also go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
