Hawkeyes Start Strong In East Lansing

EAST LANSING, MI – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team completed the first day of competition Friday at the annual Big Ten Singles Tournament. Doubles competition, being held for the first time in tournament history, began today on the campus of Michigan State University.

In Doubles Flight A, Will Vasos and Tommy McGeorge continued their stellar play. The duo finished third, winning three of four matches.

“Tommy (McGeorge) and Will (Vasos) played great,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “To finish third in this tournament is a really nice accomplishment.”

Marc Bruche and Reinoud Haal also competed in Flight A. The pair won their first round match against Dierberger and Bertha of Wisconsin before falling in the second round.

In Doubles Flight B, Nikita Zotov and Austen Kauss claimed two wins on the day. In addition, Patrick Dwyer and Garrett Dunn also claimed two victories.

The Black and Gold will continue competition tomorrow at the Big Ten Singles Tournament. Singles competition is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. CT.
