Black and Gold Conclude Fall Competition

EAST LANSING, MI – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team completed fall competition Sunday at the annual Big Ten Singles Tournament on the campus of Michigan State University.

Marc Bruche, competing in the main singles draw, fell in the round of 16. The sophomore lost to Mike Srocynski of Michigan, 6-4, 6-3.

Four Hawkeyes, Garret Dunn, Nikita Zotov, Austen Kauss and Tommy McGeorge, fell in the third round of the singles back draw Sunday.

“Today was a disappointing day,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “Overall, we made a lot of progress throughout the fall.”

Kauss enjoyed the upset of the weekend in singles play. The junior defeated the No. 2 overall seed, Slavko Biljela of Purdue, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (5), in the first round Saturday. In doubles play, the duo of McGeorge and Will Vasos continued their stellar play. The pair won three of four matches Friday and finished third in Doubles Flight A.

The Black and Gold will open the 2010 spring schedule at the ITA Kickoff Classic in Waco, TX, Jan. 29-31.
