Grimm, Windsor Earn Big Ten Honors

Nov. 12, 2009

University of Iowa freshman Jade Grimm was named to the Big Ten Conference all-Freshmen team, and senior co-captain Heather Windsor was selected as the Iowa soccer nominee for the Big Ten’s sportsmanship award Wednesday.

Grimm, a Cedar Rapids, IA native, started every game for the Hawkeye soccer team this season. The defender/midfielder was part of an Iowa defense that denied opponents for just over 409-straight minutes and recorded six shutouts in 10 games.

This is the second year in a row that an Iowa freshman was named to the conference all-freshman team. Morgan Showalter was chosen for the all-freshman team last year.

Windsor, a Temecula, CA native, helped lead the Hawkeyes to the program’s best start in school history (8-4). The senior is now a candidate for the Big Ten’s Outstanding Sportsmanship award, given to one male and one female athlete at the end of the year.

“This is a great award for Jade,” said Head Coach Ron Rainey. “It is a well deserved honor for her and the team. Heather Windsor, as a captain and awesome teammate this year, is a great candidate for the sportsmanship award at the end of the year.”
