Iowa Climbs in BCS Standings

Nov. 22, 2009

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes moved up two positions in the weekly Bowl Championship Series poll to 11th place, one notch below Big Ten Conference peer Ohio State and two slots ahead of league peer Penn State.

Iowa’s BCS percentage improved to .524 after its 12-0 victory over Minnesota Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, a victory that gave the Hawkeyes’ their seventh 10-win season in school history and fourth under head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Iowa was ranked 13th in the Associated Press and USA Today polls released today.

Florida remained the No. 1 team in all three polls including the BCS. Alabama, Texas, Texas Christian and Boise State rounded out the BCS’s top five.

Iowa’s ranking in the BCS was boosted by the six computer polls which had the Hawkeyes at No. 10, Ohio State at No. 11 and Penn State at No. 18 – an order that suggests the computers looked favorably on Iowa’s strength of schedule and its performance in road games.

The Hawkeyes remain eligible for an at-large invitation to a Bowl Championship Series event. Those invitations will be extended on Sunday, Dec. 6.
