Iowa Completes Day Two Short Course Nationals

FEDERAL WAY, WA- The University of Iowa men’s swimming team finished its second day of competition at the ConocoPhillips Short Course National Championship. After two days of competition the Hawkeyes are in 5th place out of 32 teams with 105 points.

Iowa started off the meet with the 4×50 medley relay. The team of junior Max Dittmer, senior Matt Ryan, sophomore Paul Gordon and junior Sean Hagan placed 9th at finals. The Hawkeyes posted a time of 1:31.42.

Gordon and freshman Byron Butler swam the 100 fly at prelims. Gordon swam a collegiate best time of 48.28 and placed 19th. Butler placed 35th with a time of 50.00. Gordon also swam the 200 free, placing 16th (1:40.04) at finals. Freshman Jordan Huff earned 12th place in the 200 free at finals. He posted a collegiate best time of 1:37.62.

Senior Nick Divan and sophomore Duncan Partridge swam the 200 free at prelims. Divan placed 39th (1:41.15), while Partridge placed 68th (1:43.31). Junior Sean Hagan placed 28th in the 100 breast at prelims, posting a season best time of 56.65. Junior Zane Hugo and Phelan also swam the 100 breast at prelims. Hugo placed 66th with a time of 59.26, while Phelan placed 71st (59.44).

Dittmer swam the 100 back at finals and placed 24th with a time of 50.41. Butler swam the 100 back at prelims and placed 29th (50.74). The Hawkeyes concluded the second day of competition with the 4×200 free relay. The team of Gordon, Divan, Huff and Partridge placed 5th at finals, recording a time of 6:37.51.

The competition will wrap-up tomorrow. Prelims start at 11 a.m. central time and finals will start at 7 p.m. central time.
