IOWA CITY, Iowa — There were a few familiar faces joining their University of Iowa teammates Friday as the Hawkeye football team completed its second pre-bowl workout in the Bubble.

Quarterback Ricky Stanzi, running back Adam Robinson and linebackers Jeremiha Hunter and Jeff Tarpinian were among the UI student-athletes dressed and shaking off the dust following a 10-2 regular season that ended with a 12-0 win against Minnesota on Nov. 21.

In nine games and one quarter this season, Stanzi completed 56 percent of his passes for 2,186 yards and 15 touchdowns. That was an average of 218.6 yards of passing yardage per outing. Robinson rushed for 775 yards and five touchdowns. On average, he gained 4.6 yards per attempt with a long of 43. Hunter and Tarpinian combined for 99 tackles. Hunter is third on the team with 83 stops (30 solo, 53 assists) and Tarpinian, who has evolved into a special team’s torpedo, has 16 tackles (six solo, 10 assists).

Iowa is a serious contender to receive a Bowl Championship Series berth that will be announced Sunday, Dec. 6. The Hawkeyes are No. 9 in the latest BCS poll, ninth in the Associated Press poll and rated No. 10 by USA Today.

Iowa returns to practice Saturday afternoon. There will be no practice Sunday, but head coach Kirk Ferentz will meet with media at 8 p.m. in the player’s auditorium inside the Hayden Fry Football Complex. To watch the press conference live, click HERE .
