IOWA CITY, IA – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team defeated DePaul Sunday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, 7-0. The 55th-ranked Hawkeyes move to 6-1 on the season with the victory.

“We played very well when it counted,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “I am very happy to be 6-1 at this stage of the season.”

The Hawkeyes, 3-0 at home, won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the point. At the No. 3 position, Garret Dunn and Reinoud Haal defeated Matija Palinic and Doug Perrin, 8-5. Tommy McGeorge and Will Vasos continued their strong play. The duo defeated Vanja Grgec and Mathias Hambach, 8-6, to win its fifth straight.

Iowa swept the Blue Demons in singles play. At the No. 1 spot, Marc Bruche defeated Bartosz Jozwiak, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Nikita Zotov was victorious at the No. 2 spot. The junior defeated Matija Palinic, 6-3, 6-3. Haal won his sixth consecutive match, defeating Ben Hartman at the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-4. Vasos also won his sixth consecutive match at the No. 4 spot, defeating Hambach, 6-4, 6-4. McGeorge defeated Grgec, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 at the No. 5 spot. In addition, Tom Mroziewicz saw his first dual action of the season at the No. 6 spot. The sophomore defeated Perrin, 7-5, 6-4.

The Black and Gold, winners of six straight, return to action next Saturday when they face Sacramento State in Denver, CO. Match time will be announced this week.
