IOWA CITY – THE SETTING
The Iowa Hawkeyes (17-12, 10-8) enter the 2010 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament as the No. 3 seed. Iowa will play in Game 5 Friday at approximately 1 p.m. (CT). The Hawkeyes will take the winner of No. 6 Penn State vs. No. 11 Minnesota, which takes place Thursday at approximately 1:30 p.m. (CT).
ON YOUR TELEVISION
Iowa’s quarterfinal game of the Big Ten Tournament will be broadcast to a national cable audience on the Big Ten Network (HD). Mark Neely, Mary Murphy and Leah Secando will call the action.
ON YOUR RADIO
Brent Balbinot and Shelley Till will call all Big Ten Tournament games for the Hawkeye Radio Network. The games can be heard on AM-800 KXIC, AM-600 WMT, AM-1040 WHO, and also on the Hawkeye All-Access page of hawkeyesports.com. IOWA HISTORY
Iowa has played 1,031 games, since beginning basketball in 1974. Iowa’s overall record is 627-404 (.608). That includes a 318-158 (.668) mark in regular season Big Ten contests and a 297-87 (.773) mark in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
HAWKEYE BIG TEN TOURNAMENT FACTS
? Iowa is 14-13 overall in the Big Ten Tournament, which includes championships in 1997 and 2001.
? The Hawkeyes are 11-13 in Conesco Fieldhouse. Iowa won the 2001 tournament when it was hosted in Grand Rapids, MI, which was Coach Bluder’s first season at Iowa and the only year the tournament was not hosted in Indianapolis.
? Coach Bluder holds an 8-8 record in Big Ten Tournament games.
? This year marks the first time in the tournament’s 16-year history that Iowa will compete as the No. 3 seed.
? The No. 3 seed has won the Big Ten Tournament three times, all of which were won by Purdue (2000, 2003, 2008).
? No. 3 seeds have a combined record of 19-12 in the Big Ten Tournament.
? The Hawkeyes are 6-6 in quarterfinal round games of the Big Ten Tournament.
? Iowa is 0-2 all-time vs. Penn State in quarterfinal matchups, and 2-0 vs. Minnesota. The Hawkeyes lost to Penn State in the 1995 quarterfinals (62-69) and the 2005 quarterfinals (66-68). Iowa defeated Minnesota in the 1995 first round (57-44), the 2003 quarterfinals (80-77) and the 2009 quarterfinals (79-64).
FOUR HAWKEYES EARN ALL-BIG TEN HONORS
The 2009-10 all-Big Ten awards were announced Monday, with Head Coach Lisa Bluder, freshman Jaime Printy, junior Kachine Alexander and sophomore Kamille Wahlin taking home honors.
Bluder was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by the media, while Printy was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the league coaches and media. Printy was also a media second team all-Big Ten pick, a third team coaches all-Big Ten selection, and was a unanimous selection on the coaches all-Freshmen team.
Alexander was a first team all-Big Ten pick by the coaches and a second team all-Big Ten honoree by the league media. Alexander was also selected to the coaches’ all-Defensive team. Wahlin was a third team all-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and media.
HOT AT THE RIGHT TIME
The Hawkeyes closed the regular season by winning nine of its last 12 games. Iowa jumped from last place in the Big Ten (1-6 entering game at Illinois Jan. 21), to a tie for third place.
In addition, Iowa is guaranteed to finish with a winning record for the ninth time in 10 seasons under Head Coach Lisa Bluder. Iowa’s third place finish in the Big Ten is also the seventh time under Bluder the Hawkeyes recorded an upper-division finish in the conference.
KASH IN THE BANK
? As a 5-9 guard, junior Kachine Alexander leads the Big Ten and ranks eighth nationally with 11.3 rebounds per game.
? Alexander claimed the Big Ten rebounding title, averaging 11.1 boards per game in league games.
? Alexander is the top rebounding guard in the country, and is one of only two guards in the entire country to average a double-double (15.6 points, 11.3 rebounds per game). She is also one of only three Big Ten players to average a double-double, with the other two being post players.
? Alexander has 14 double-doubles this season and 23 in her career.
? Alexander has scored double figures in 17 of 22 games played, including seven 20-plus point performances. She has 10 or more rebounds in 16 of those games, with an impressive 10 games with 12 or more boards.
HAWKEYES BREAK NUMEROUS INDIVIDUAL RECORDS
Members of the Iowa women’s basketball team have either set or tied many individual records this season.
? Jaime Printy shattered the freshmen scoring record at Iowa. Printy broke the previous record (Lisa Becker, 416 points, 1983-84) against Indiana Feb. 25. She currently has 436 points.
? Printy also set the freshmen record for three-pointers made Feb. 4 at Ohio State. She broke Lindsey Meder’s record of 49, set during the 1998-99 season. Printy currently has 71 made treys.
? Sophomore Kamille Wahlin now holds the record for three-pointers made by a sophomore. She broke Wendy Ausdemore’s previous record of 62 made three’s set during the 2006-07 season, Feb. 18 vs Minnesota. Wahlin has made 75 three-pointers this season.
? Wahlin also went 7-15 from three-point range against Penn State Dec. 28, which set a new school record for three-point attempts in a game and tied the school record for three-pointers made in a single game.
? Junior Kachine Alexander set two school records and a Big Ten mark from the free throw line Feb. 14 vs. Illinois. Alexander was 17-20 from the charity stripe, setting new school marks for makes and attempts. In addition, her 17 made free throws are the most by a single player in a Big Ten game.
? Freshman Morgan Johnson broke both the school and Carver-Hawkeye Arena record for blocks in a single game with eight against Minnesota Feb. 18. The previous record was seven, which she had already tied twice.
TEAM RECORDS FALLING, TOO
The 2009-10 Hawkeyes have also put their names in the team records book as well.
? Iowa shattered the single season record for three-pointers made and attempted. Iowa has made 227 treys and attempted 613. The previous mark for made three-pointers was 199 and attempts was 554, both set during the 2001-02 season.
? The Hawkeyes broke the school record for team blocks in a single game with 13 against MInnesota Feb. 18. The old mark was 12, set at Drake in 2009.
? Iowa tied the school record for three-pointers made in a game twice, by draining 12 triples Nov. 28 vs. Columbia and vs. Illinois Feb. 14. Iowa’s 34 three-point attempts at Penn State Dec. 28 also tied a school record.
? Iowa went a perfect 16-16 from the free throw line against Columbia Nov. 28, which tied the school record for team free throw percentage (1.000). In addition, Iowa set a new mark for free throw percentage (minimum 20 attempts) at Minnesota Jan. 3, shooting .952 from the line (20-21).
CLIMBING THE RECORDS LADDER
? Morgan Johnson’s 72 blocks are the second-most for an Iowa freshmen. Tangela Smith (73) is in first place. Smith’s 73 blocks also rank first all-time in Iowa history.
? Jaime Printy’s 87 assists are tied for the second most among Iowa freshmen. She is tied with current teammate, Kamille Wahlin, and trails Cara Consuegra (94) for first place.
? Johnson’s 193 rebounds are third among freshman. She trails Cindy Haugejorde (237) for second place.
? Kachine Alexander’s 248 rebounds rank second among juniors in Iowa history. she strials Shanda Berry (263) for first place.

? Kamille Wahlin currently ranks ninth in sophomore scoring. She trais Tangela Smith (422) for eighth place.
LEADING THE LEAGUE
Several Hawkeyes finished the Big Ten schedule a top of statistical categories, and are currently leading in overall stats.
? Junior Kachine Alexander claimed the Big Ten rebounding crown, averaging 11.1 boards per contest in league games. She also finished first in defensive rebounds (8.12 per game).
? Sophomore Kamille Wahlin topped the conference with 2.59 made three-pointers per game.
? Freshman Morgan Johnson led the entire conference in field goal percentage, shooting .508 from the field.
? As a team, the Hawkeyes made more treys per game (7.72) than any other league opponent during the conference season.
? In all games, Alexander ranks first in rebounding (11.3) and offensive rebounds (3.59).
? Jaime Printy currently leads the conference in free throw percentage (.873).
? Wahlin tops the conference in three-pointers made per game (2.68).
? Iowa tops the conference with 7.83 treys made per game.
ONE, TWO FROM THREE
Kamille Wahlin and Jaime Printy are proving to be a potent one-two punch from behind the three-point arc.
The duo ranks first and second in the Big Ten in three pointers made per game. Wahlin leads the league with 2.68 per game, while Printy is second at 2.45.
ROOKIES ON TOP
Freshmen Jaime Printy and Morgan Johnson wrapped up the conference season with some pretty impressive figures compared to their young counterparts.
Printy led all freshmen in scoring (15.8) and free throw percentage (.836), while Johnson led the way in rebounds (6.6), field goal percentage (.508) and blocks (2.61).
In all games, Printy leads league freshmen in scoring (15.0), three-point percentage (.397) and free throw percentage (.873), while Johnson is first in rebounding (6.7), field goal percentage (.500) and blocks (2.48).
UNDERCLASSMEN CONTRIBUTING
Iowa’s freshmen and sophomore class are putting up big numbers for the Hawkeyes this season.
Hawkeye underclassmen are responsible for 80 percent of the teams’ points and minutes played.
In addition, Iowa fields the youngest starting lineup in the Big Ten, with two freshmen, two sophomores and one junior.
TAKING ADVANTAGE OF FREE THROWS
Iowa, under Head Coach Lisa Bluder, is proving to be one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country.
The Hawkeyes have ranked in the top 15 in the nation four of the past five seasons. Iowa finished the 2005-06 season ranked 10th (.760), 2006-07 ranked fifth (.788) and also ranked fifth (.792) last season.
The 2009-10 campaign is no different. Iowa currently ranks 12th in free throw percentage across the NCAA (.758). The Hawkeyes are led at the charity stripe by Jaime Printy (.873) and Kamille Wahlin (.871).
HAWKEYE HUDDLE ANNOUNCED
Hawkeye fans attending the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis should make plans to attend the pre-game Hawkeye Hoops Huddles held prior to each Iowa basketball game.
The Hoops Huddles, presented by the National I-Club and UI Alumni Association, will be held at Jillian’s, 141 S. Meridian Street in Indianapolis. Jillian’s is located one block west of Conseco Fieldhouse, on the corner of Meridian and Georgia.
The first Hawkeye Huddle will be held Friday from 11:30-1 p.m. (ET). As Iowa progresses through the tournament, Huddles will be held 2 1/2 hours prior to each Hawkeye game.
All Hawkeye fans are welcome to attend the free event, which includes snacks, cash refreshments, Hawk Shop door prizes and a performance by the Iowa Spirit Squad.
