IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s cross country program has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for the seventh straight season. The 2009 Hawkeyes compiled a team cumulative 3.50 GPA and placed fifth at the Midwest Regionals.

“One of our program’s goals is to not only compete for a berth in the NCAA Cross Country Championships, but to also meet the required standard to earn all-academic team honors,” said Head Women’s Cross Country Coach Layne Anderson. “This marks the seventh consecutive year our women’s cross country team has earned this award and we shall continue to set the bar high each and every year with regard to our academic goals.”

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA. A record total of 176 Division I women’s programs received USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors. The Hawkeyes ranked third among 10 Big Ten schools honored with all-academic team status.
